NECAP Testing Fall 2010 - Breakfast PDF Print E-mail
Written by Frank Treu

We have approximately 110 students taking the NECAP tests on October 5th, 6th, 7th and nearly 75 third, fifth and eighth graders taking the NECAP on the 12th, and 28 third graders taking the NECAP on the 13th, and 14th, 2010.  Often many children come to school without breakfast or with an inadequate breakfast.  Studies have shown that proper nutrition affects test scores as well as intellectual development.[1]  A brief survey of those students taking the tests over the 6 days shows that, if available, almost all would eat a nutritional breakfast provided by the school for free over the testing dates.

The Weathersfield School, Mrs. Oakman, Principal and Frank Treu, Guidance Counselor working together, have secured a grant to be able to provide a free breakfast for all students taking the NECAP test on those dates.  Our wonderful new Lead Cook Kaitlin Cahill, working on short notice will prepare and serve the free breakfast.  If your child is having the breakfast, he or she will be able to come into the all-purpose room when they first come in to school and pick up their breakfast and sit at a table and eat.
