The Mario Bevacqua Memorial Scholarship PDF Print E-mail
Written by BJ Esty

The Weathersfield School Board and the family of Mario Bevacqua are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Mario Bevacqua Memorial Scholarship. A principal at the Weathersfield School for twenty years, Mario Bevacqua was dedicated to the belief that every child deserved a well-rounded education. He served as a positive role model for both students and staff through his passion, good humor and generous spirit. The recipient of this award should exhibit those same qualities, which made Mario a dynamic educator.

Each year, a $500 one-time scholarship will be given to a deserving high school senior who graduated from the Weathersfield School and currently resides in Weathersfield. The recipient must be enrolled full time in a public or private college or technical school, either in or out of state. No specific degree field is required. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, room/board or books, and will be dispersed at the beginning of their second semester of college.

Interested high school seniors must write an essay detailing how their Weathersfield School experience helped prepare them for high school and college and what it meant to them. In addition, students must answer the following questions:

1. What is your dream?

2. What do you strive to achieve by going to college?

3. Why did you apply to your accepted college?

4. What community involvement did you engage in during high school and why did you choose those activities?

Typed essays should be submitted by April 15, 2012

to Weathersfield School, Attn: Mario Bevacqua Scholarship Committee, PO Box 279, Ascutney, VT 05030. Final selection of the recipient will be based on this essay. The recipient will be chosen by a committee comprised of the Bevacqua family, a member of the Weathersfield School Board, and a teacher at the Weathersfield School.

IMPORTANT FY 12 CALENDAR CHANGE PDF Print E-mail
Written by BJ Esty

Dear Families,

We are very excited about our new Schoolwide Action and Improvement Plan, which was approved by the WS School Board on November 21, 2011!  This plan has four goals, all of which are designed to increase student achievement at WS! In order to do justice to the school improvement work before us, faculty and staff  need to have several early release days this school year to be afforded the concentrated time necessary to effect change, work with their Academic Coach, Janna Osman,  and for the professional development needed to become even more skillful at our work.  The following dates have been set for early release days, which are all on Wednesdays:

December 21, 2011

January 4, 2012

January 25, 2012

February 1, 2012

March 14, 2012

March 28, 2012

April 4, 2012

April 25, 2012

May 9, 2012

May 23, 2012

Though we will be sending the students home after lunch at 11:30 am on these ten days, faculty and staff will be working until after 3:00 pm every day.  If these half days pose a problem for families, please let us know and we will make arrangements to have your child(ren) supervised during these afternoons. We do not want children going to an empty house or being unsafe as a result of not being in school….safety first!  Please call me at 674-5400 if you need supervision for any of these early release afternoons.

If you have questions, please feel free to call the school.  I promise to run these early release days in subsequent news letters as reminders for your convenience.

Thank you for your partnership and support as we work hard to make a difference in the lives of ALL Weathersfield children….they deserve to have the very best education possible, and we are working diligently to make this happen.

Sincerely,

JeanMarie K. Oakman, WS Principal
